Red Raiders in 2nd after Amer Ari opening round

WAIMEA, Hawaii – No. 11 Texas Tech is tied for second after the opening round of The Amer Ari Invitational by shooting 15-under-par on Thursday to begin the spring season while sophomore Baard Skogen is in third individually at 6-under at the Hapuna Golf Course.
No. 3 Arizona State leads the tournament at 20-under, while No. 4 Oklahoma State and No. 21 Washington are tied with Tech after posting team totals of 273 in the first of three days on the island. Georgia Tech is one stroke back of the Red Raiders at 14-under, while Stanford (-12) and Pepperdine (-10) are lurking.
Skogen finished his round of 66 with seven birdies and an eagle to put him in the top-three and just one stroke back of tournament leaders Mason Andersen and James Leow of Arizona State. Tech junior Garrett Martin will go into Friday's second round at 4-under and in 12th, while Ludvig Aberg shot 3-under which has him in 23rd. Aberg, who is ranked No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, made four birdies and only one bogey in his opening round.
Calum Scott and Andy Lopez are both at 2-under and tied for 31st overall.
The Red Raiders will begin their second round of the Amer Ari at 11:30 a.m. (CST) on Friday. Tech will be paired UCLA, Oregon and Washington. The final round of the tournament is scheduled for Saturday.Â
