Skogen, No. 11 Red Raiders lead Amer Ari tournament

WAIMEA, Hawaii – Texas Tech sophomore Baard Skogen and the No. 11-ranked Red Raiders are both atop The Amer Ari Invitational leaderboard.
Skogen is at 13-under-par will take a two-stroke lead into the final round of the Amer Ari after posting a career-low round of 7-under (65) on Friday at the Hapuna Golf Course, while Tech is at 36-under after a team total of 21-under in the second round. TTU will go into Saturday's third and final round with a one-stroke lead over No. 3 Arizona State which is at 35-under through 36 holes and Washington (-30).
Tech's round of 267 was one shy of the program record for the lowest round in program history behind only a 266 in the third round of the 2015 Amer Ari.Â
A Norway native, Skogen (66-65) made seven birdies and only one bogey in his round of 7-under. He had a stretch of four straight birdies before finishing his round with three consecutive pars. Through two rounds, Skogen has 15 birdies and is currently two strokes ahead of Preston Summerhays who is at 11-under for Arizona State. Dylan Menante (Pepperdine) and RJ Manke (Washington) are both at 10-under going into Saturday's final round.
Tech junior Garrett Martin is tied for eighth at 9-under, while Ludvig Aberg is at 8-under and 12th overall. Martin shot 5-under on Friday with a bogey-free round and five birdies to put himself four strokes off the lead with 18 holes to play. Aberg, who is No. 3 in the WAGR, matched Martin with a round of 5-under on Friday with seven birdies and two bogeys. Calum Scott continued to play well, posting a 4-under, 68 in the second round and is at 6-under for the tournament which has him in 21st while Andy Lopez is at 5-under after a round of 69 on Friday.
After the first round, No. 3 Arizona State led the tournament at 20-under, while No. 4 Oklahoma State and No. 21 Washington were tied with Tech after posting team totals of 273. Georgia Tech was one stroke back of the Red Raiders at 14-under, while Stanford (-12) and Pepperdine (-10) put up solid first-round scores. Skogen finished his first round of 66 with seven birdies and an eagle to put him in the top-three and just one stroke back of tournament first-round leaders Mason Andersen and James Leow of Arizona State.
Tech is looking to win its first tournament of the season after taking a pair of fourth-place finishes at The Carmel Cup and Maridoe Collegiate in the fall. The Red Raiders last tournament win came in the 2021 NCAA Albuquerque Regional in the postseason, while the 2019 Iverness Intercollegiate is the last regular-season victory as a team.
