The Red Raiders run-ruled the Islanders 9-1 in five innings to start off the day before shutting out the Golden Hurricane 2-0 in the Texas Tech Invitational finale.
Texas Tech 9, Texas A&M- Corpus Christi 1 (5 inn.)
The Red Raiders put a run on the board in each of the first three innings before busting things open with a five-run fourth inning to lead 8-1.
The first run of the game came across in the bottom of the first when Ellie Bailey singled to bring in Payton Jackson who reached on a walk. The Red Raiders added another run in the second inning after a four-walk inning brought in Riley Love to make it 2-0.
A leadoff home run from Pal Egan put the Islanders on the board in the third inning, to cut the Tech lead in half, 2-1. Tech answered with another run in the bottom half of the inning to push the lead back to two when Arriana Villa singled up the middle to score Love whose two-out double started the Red Raider rally.
The Red Raiders five-run fourth inning started with a leadoff walk from Armijo, her third of the game. Demi Elder, pinch running for Armijo, stole second and reached third on a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners with no outs for Tech. Riley Ehlen brought Elder home with a sac bunt and Abbie Orrick cleared the bases with a two-run home run to left field to make it 6-1 Red Raiders. Love singled to center field and came home on a double from Peyton Blythe. Tech got one more run when Jackson doubled to right center to score Blythe to give the Red Raiders an 8-1 advantage.
After blanking the Islanders in the top of the fifth, the Red Raiders ended the game in run-rule fashion on a pinch-hit double from Maddie Westmoreland that brough home Bailey for the ninth run of the game.
Erna Carlin (3-1) went the distance for the Red Raiders, giving up just one run on five hits with five strikeouts in 5.0 innings pitched.
Texas Tech 2, Tulsa 0
Tulsa threatened first, putting runners on second and third with one out in the top of the first, but the Red Raiders got out of the jam forcing a ground out and a line out to end the frame.
An error brought in the first Red Raider run of the game. Ehlen singled to lead off the bottom of the second and moved into scoring position on a groundout from Molly Grumbo. With two outs and the runner going, Love hit a high pop up in the infield that the Tulsa shortstop could not handle, scoring Ehlen from second to give Tech a 1-0 advantage.
After a couple of quiet innings, Tech doubled its lead in the bottom of the fifth as Jackson doubled to left center to score Villa from first.
Kendall Fritz retired the Golden Hurricane on seven pitches in the sixth and 11 pitches in the seventh inning to seal the 2-0 victory.
Fritz (8-4) picked up her third win of the weekend, despite not striking out a single batter in the game. The junior was incredibly efficient, throwing just 76 pitches in the game, allowing four hits and one walk.
