Aberg misses cut at Valero Texas Open

SAN ANTONIO – Texas Tech junior Ludvig Aberg will miss the cut at the PGA's Valero Texas Open, while former Red Raider Mito Pereira is at 3-under-par after Friday's round which has him playing into the weekend at TPC San Antonio.
Aberg made four birdies on his final nine holes but finished at 7-over after his two rounds. At No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, Aberg was competing in his third PGA Tour event on a sponsor's exemption. He shot a 1-over, 73 on Friday after finishing with a birdie on the par 5, 591-yard No. 18 hole after a 350-yard drive to set himself up. He also played PGA Tour tournaments at The RSM Classic and the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.Â
Pereira played at Tech during the 2014-15 season before turning professional. He shot 2-under on Friday and is currently in the top-30 at the event. A rookie on the PGA Tour after he earning wins at the BMW Charity Pro-Am, REX Hospital Open and Country Club de Bogota Championship on the Korn Ferry last season to secure a Three-Victory Promotion to the PGA Tour. Pereira finished his freshman season at Tech with a 72.2 stroke average and earned Big 12 All-Tournament Team honors after shooting 9-under for eighth place at the tournament in Tulsa. He finished third at the Fortinet Championship in September for his best finish on the PGA Tour.
The Valero Texas Open will be broadcast on the Golf Channel and NBC on Saturday and Sunday.
