Aberg earns Arnold Palmer Cup selection
April 19, 2022 | Men's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior Ludvig Aberg has earned his second straight automatic qualification to compete at the Arnold Palmer Cup which is this summer from July 1-3 at the Golf Club de Genève in Geneva, Switzerland. An Eslov, Sweden native, Aberg will represent the International Team.
Aberg is currently No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, No. 7 in the Golfstat collegiate rankings and No. 8 in the Golfweek individual rankings. He has recorded six top-10 finishes in nine stroke play events this season and has also played three PGA Tour events at the Valero Texas Open, The RSM Classic and the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
Using Golfstat's NCAA Player Ranking as a base, the Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking awarded bonus points for wins and high finishes and a penalty for poor finishes. The ranking also contains a strength of schedule component. Since its inception, over 125 former Arnold Palmer Cup alumni have gone on to earn cards on the PGA, European, or LPGA Tours; 32 have represented Europe or the USA in the Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup, or Solheim Cup and more than 65 have claimed over 285 victories on the PGA, European, or LPGA Tours, including three major champions in both 2020 and 2021. The United States leads the Palmer Cup series 13-11-1.
Aberg finished as the 2021 European Amateur Championship runner-up last summer and won his third collegiate event of his career in February at The Prestige in California. He is coming off a runner-up finish at the Aggie Invitational two weeks ago and took sixth at the Thunderbird Collegiate last weekend in Phoenix. Through nine tournaments, Aberg has a 70.3 scoring average that includes a career-low 63 at the Cabo Collegiate.
The Red Raiders have also been represented at the Arnold Palmer Cup by Nils Floren (2011), Clement Sordet (2015), Hannes Ronneblad (2017), Frederick Nilehan (2018), Hurly Long (2018), Ivan Ramirez (2019) and Sandy Scott (2019).
