Red Raiders move up in latest rankings

The Red Raiders return home this weekend for the Corky/Crofoot Shootout
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Texas Tech track and field team enter the rankings inside the top 7 in the fifth installment of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll released Monday afternoon.
The women's team moved up one spot to No. 5, while the men's program slid three spots to No. 7.
Tech spent the weekend in Waco, Texas as part of the Michael Johnson Invitational Friday and Saturday, battling through very windy conditions. One day one, the Red Raiders recorded a trio of first place outings which included a pair in the long jump by Ruth Usoro and Chris Welch. Usoro's fifth attempt of 6.59m (21-7.50) (5.2w) stood as the winner as Welch leaped 7.67m (25-2) (8.3w) on his third jump.
Saturday, the team of Virginia Kerley, Kiah Dubarry-Gay, Aneesa Scott and Rosemary Chukwuma clocked in a time of 43.22 in the 4x100. They defeated the pro team of Hurdle Mechanic (43.25) and in the process, recorded the third fastest time in Tech history.
