PREVIEW
Tech hopes to improve upon its conference standing heading into the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City as the Red Raiders host in-state foe Texas for the final Big 12 series of the season. The Red Raiders sit in fifth place at 5-10, just behind Baylor (4-8) who took the series from Tech two games to one last weekend. Tech will have to sit and watch next week during its bye week as the rest of the Big 12 finishes conference play.
The Red Raiders and Longhorns meet in Lubbock for the first time since 2019. Texas took the series, but Tech stole one game, a 3-2 win on a walk-off from Breanna Russell. The Longhorns swept the Red Raiders in the regular season last year, but Tech ended the season defeating No. 10 Texas 5-1 in the Big 12 Tournament third place game.
Texas has the advantage in the series, winning 49-of-61 meetings including 15 of the last 17 contests. The Red Raiders have not won a series against the Longhorns since taking two of three at home in 2015. Tech is 5-21 against Texas in Lubbock and 5-18 at Rocky Johnson Field.
The Longhorns were swept by Oklahoma State last weekend and sit at third place in the Big 12 standings. Texas ranks second in the Big 12 in batting average (.309), fourth in ERA (3.04) and fifth in fielding (.955). The 17th ranked Longhorns are 28th nationally in batting average, 26th in on base percentage, sixth in doubles and 11th in walks.
