Aberg, Red Raiders in second at Aggie Invitational

BRYAN, Texas – Texas Tech junior Ludvig Aberg is at 2-under-par which has him in second at the Aggie Invitational which started with 36 holes on Saturday at the Traditions Club in Bryan-College Station. Â
The No.7 Red Raiders are also in second place in the team standings at 18-over, while No. 23 Texas A&M leads its home event by shooting 6-over on the first day. Tee times for Sunday's championship round will begin at 8:30 a.m. with just one round on the final day. Arkansas is third at 19-over followed by Houston and New Mexico at 20-over.
Aberg is just one stroke back TAMU's Walker Lee who is at 3-under through 36. Aberg finished his day with two birdies, but also had four bogeys in his first second round on Saturday. He posted 68-74 during his two rounds, starting with an opening round where he made five birdies and only one bogey. Baard Skogen will also go into Sunday in the top-10 at 3-over. A sophomore from Norway, Skogen is at 3-over after shooting 72-75 on Saturday in Aggieland.
Texas A&M's Sam Bennett is the defending individual champion at the event after shooting 6-under last year. He is currently at 1-over through two rounds which has him fourth.
Andy Lopez is tied for 11th at 4-over after shooting 71-77 during his two rounds on Saturday, while Calum Scott shot 13-over (77-80) and Sandy Scott is at 20-over (84-80). Playing as individuals, Kyle Hogan finished at 15-over (78-81) and Carl Didrik Meen Fosaas is 17-over (76-85) going into the final round.
Tech has played in 13 straight Aggie Invitationals dating back to 2005 and will be looking to win its first title at the event. The Red Raiders have had one player win the individual title with Oscar Floren winning the 2006 tournament at 7-under with a 75-68-66 – 209 scorecard. The tournament was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19 and in 2019 due to weather. The Red Raiders finished fourth last season at 9-over, while the Aggies won their home event in a playoff over Oklahoma after finishing at 2-over.
As a team, Tech is currently at No. 7 in the Golfstat rankings, No. 9 in the Golfweek ratings and at No. 8 in the most recent Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll. The Aggie Invitational will lead into the Red Raiders playing in their final regular-season event at the Thunderbird Collegiate on April 15-16 in Phoenix. The events lead into the Big 12 Championship in Trinity, Texas from April 25-27 before the NCAA Tournament.
