Jung, Murrell named CoSIDA Academic All-District

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball's Jace Jung and Easton Murrell have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team for their excellence in the classroom and on the diamond, the organization announced on Thursday. The duo are District 7 honorees.
To be eligible for Academic All-District, nominees must have a 3.30 GPA or higher to go along with significant on-field contributions.
A year ago, Jung was named an Academic All-American, and on Thursday reached the first step to becoming a back-to-back Academic All-American. Through 48 games in 2022, all starting at second base, the sophomore is leading the Red Raiders with a .364 batting average and 12 home runs. He's scored the seventh-most runs (61) in the nation and drawn the fourth-most walks (52) in the nation. Jung is a sports management major.
Murrell is a first-time honoree. The fifth-year senior has started 30 games, 25 being in left field. He has a .330 batting average in 2022 and has a .532 on-base percentage as Tech's leadoff hitter. He owns 21 RBIs and eight home runs. He is a postgraduate student with a bachelor's in communication studies.
There are eight districts that divide the United States and Canada. Texas Tech, within District 7, includes Division I institutions from the states of Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Nevada and Idaho.
Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced on June 8.
