Red Raiders selected for NCAA New Haven Regional

LUBBOCK, Texas -- No. 8 Texas Tech is headed the New Haven Regional to play at the Yale Golf Club from May 16-18 in New Haven, Connecticut. The Red Raiders are advancing to the program's 20th straight NCAA men's golf tournament and are the second seed at the regional site.
The Red Raiders will be going up against No. 5 North Carolina which is the top seed at the regional along with No. 17 Wake Forest, No. 19 Illinois, No. 28 North Carolina State, Charlotte, North Florida, Georgia Southern, Mississippi State, Virginia, UCF, Seton Hall, Yale and Sacred Heart.
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 16-18. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals. Regional play is considered preliminary rounds of the NCAA championships competition and all national championship policies apply.
Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 27-June 1 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Arizona State and The Thunderbirds are the hosts for the 2022 championships.
Tech won the 2021 Albuquerque Regional last season and also won the 2010 South Central Regional in College Station. The Red Raiders have advanced to 13 NCAA Championships, including last season where the team finished 11th in Scottsdale, Arizona. Â
Ludvig Aberg is coming off winning the individual title at the Big 12 Championship and has led the Red Raiders throughout the season where he is currently at No. 2 in the Golfstat individual rankings, No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and No. 4 in the Golfweek collegiate ratings. A junior from Eslov, Sweden, Aberg is on the late-season award watch lists for the Hogan and Haskins along with earning a spot in the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup. He finished eighth at the NCAA Championship last season to earn all-America honors. Baard Skogen is at No. 40 in the Golfweek rankings, No. 42 in the Golfstat rankings and No. 55 in the WAGR. The complete list of Red Raiders who will compete in the NCAA Tournament events will be announced next week.

Tech finished fourth at the 2022 Big 12 Championship after shooting 3-under as a team in the 54-hole event that was won by No. 1 Oklahoma at -14.
