LUBBOCK, Texas – A trio of former Red Raiders will represent Team USATF at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Ore., July 15-24 at Hayward Field.
Alaysha Johnson competed for Tech in 2019 as a graduate transfer from CSUN and held the Red Raiders 100 hurdles record up until this year – holds a pair of top 10 marks. It will be her second overall Team USA appearance in 2022 as she competed at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in March, finishing as a semifinalist in the 60m hurdles. Johnson recorded five personal best times in June, most recently finishing second at the 2022 USATF Outdoor Championships with a time of 12.35 in the 100 hurdles.
After becoming an Olympic finalist last summer for Team USA at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Bernard Keter earns his second nod representing the stars and stripes. Keter finished third in the 3000 steeplechase at the USATF Outdoor Championships to solidify his spot, posting a season-best time of 8:19.16. Keter was a Red Raider from 2016-17 becoming one of the best distance runners to don the Red and Black. He remains atop the TTU steeplechase record book with a time of 8:33.75, holding four top 10 marks.
Running just one season – his final one – (2019) for Tech, Jonah Koech placed second in the 800 at the USATF outdoor meet. He ran personal best mark of 1:44.74, securing his first Team USA bid.
