Red Raiders post six wins on Friday at ITA Texas Regionals

FORT WORTH, Texas – Main draw competition at the ITA Texas Regional Tournament got started on Friday and the Red Raiders collected an impressive six wins on the day.
Coming into the tournament as the five-seed and the highest seeded player for Tech, junior Metka Komac got off to a hot start after taking down two opponents to advance to the Round of 16 in singles. First, Komac picked up a win in the first round due to a walkover by her opposition. Then, she defeated Rice's Marte Lambrecht in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-2, to advance.
Sophomore Cristina Tiglea, who is a 12-seed in the tournament, also collected two impressive wins in singles today. In the first round, Tiglea overtook Houston's Gabriela Cortes after winning the first set, 6-3, then posting a bagel, 6-0, in set two to claim the match.
In the second round, Tiglea defeated Aleksandra Zlatarova of UTSA in a tough match. Tiglea would fall in the first set, 6-3, but came back and only allowed Zlatarova one game to win the second set, 6-1. In the super tiebreak, both players went back-and-forth before Tiglea sealed the deal with a 10-8 score.
Freshman and eight-seed, Yekaterina Dmitrichenko, posted her first win in the Scarlet & Black when she beat Incarnate Word's Lauren Fulgenzi in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-3, in the first round.
With one team competing in doubles, both Komac and Tiglea would prevail to advance to the Round of 16. Getting a first-round bye, the 12-seeded Red Raiders would easily win their match against Maryjoe Crisologo and Olivia Sears of ACU, 8-3, to stay alive.
