Red Raiders finish second in doubles at ITA Regionals

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Red Raider duo of Metka Komac and Cristina Tiglea had a dominant ITA Texas Regional tournament after advancing all the way to the finals and finishing in the runner-up position on Monday morning.
Yesterday, the Red Raiders took on the North Texas tandem of Jasmine Adams and Matilde Morais, who are the nine-seeds in the tournament, in the semifinals.
After falling in the first set by a 6-3 score, the Komac/Tiglea pair clawed their way back to force a super tiebreak with a 7-6 (5) second set. Both teams fought back-and-forth in the super tiebreak, but it would be the Red Raiders who came out on top with a 10-8 score.
This morning, the Texas Tech duo took on Incarnate Word's Lauren and Brandelyn Fulgenzi in the regional finals. Komac and Tiglea dropped the first set in a breaker, 7-6 (3), but would even the match with a 6-3 second set. The Incarnate Word pair would come back to win it with a 10-6 super tiebreak.
Texas Tech continues its fall competition with the ITA All-American Championships on Oct. 1-9 and the Baylor Hidden Dual tournament on Oct. 7-9.
