Red Raiders continue to win at Albuquerque 15k

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Red Raiders men's tennis team continued their fall slate at the Albuquerque 15k as Olle Wallin, Dimitrios Azoidis and Franco Ribero are all competing in the tournament. Just like at the West Texas Pro Tennis Open, the Red Raiders are on fire after having won six matches in the past few days.
Wallin extended his winning streak as he won two singles matches to get to the quarterfinals of the tournament. Coming off his first professional singles title at the West Texas Pro Tennis Open, the Red Raider was faced with a tough challenge in the first round as he took on one-seed Emil Reinberg (ATP 636). Wallin easily won the first set, 6-2, before Reinberg forced a third set after claiming set two by a score of 6-3. Wallin was able to take the momentum back as he defeated Reinberg, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
In the second round, Wallin posted a straight-set win over Warren Wood, 6-4, 6-3, to reach his second-consecutive quarterfinals. He is set to match up against seven-seeded Cash Hanzlik in tomorrow's competition.
Azoidis also won his first singles match of the Albuquerque 15k. Paired against Chad Kissell (ATP 906), Azoidis won the first set, 6-3, before falling in the next set, 6-1. Both players went back-and-forth in the third set, where the Red Raider would win in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5), to advance.
Azoidis also added another win in doubles when he and Ribero earned a first-round victory over Wallin and Ryan Dickerson. The Wallin/Dickerson duo won the first set 7-5, before Azoidis and Ribero forced a super tiebreak with a 6-3 set two score. The two would pull away at the end of the breaker to win 10-7 and reach the quarterfinals
In the following round, the Azoidis/Ribero pair won yet again. Taking on the New Mexico duo of Rafael Abdulsalam and Georgio Samaha, the Red Raiders were able to win in two sets, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the semifinals. They will face four-seeds Yuta Kikuchi and Isaac Nortey tomorrow.
