Kanas signs with Tenerife Libby’s La Laguna professional team

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech middle blocker, Brooke Kanas, is heading to Spain after signing with the Tenerife Libby's La Laguna professional team.
The New Braunfels native played for five years in the Scarlet and Black, helping lead the team to its first NCAA Tournament berth in 20 years and etching her name in the Texas Tech record book.
An outside hitter at the beginning of her career, Kanas moved to the middle blocker position and continued to make a huge impact at the net, both offensively and defensively.
Throughout her career, Kanas collected 1,112 kills on a .261 hitting clip, 2,564 total attacks, 330 blocks and 1,303.5 points. She ranks third all-time in Texas Tech history with 136 matches played, fifth in career kills and 10th in career blocks.
During her final season, Kanas was one of two players for the Red Raiders to earn Big 12 All-Conference honors with her Second-Team nod. She also made the Academic All-Big 12 Team and was named the Red Raider Classic MVP.
This year, Kanas played in all 29 matches while starting in 28 of them for the Red Raiders. She ranked third on the with 243 kills, 2.21 kills per set, 307.0 points and also led the team with 111.0 blocks and an impressive .305 hitting percentage.
She was the only Red Raider to finish the season with a hitting percentage over .300 (minimum of 100 attacks) and record over one block per set (1.01). Kanas tallied 11 double-digit kill performances and led the team in blocks in 14 games.
Kanas is set to begin her professional career next Saturday, as the team announced yesterday.
