No. 13 MGOLF readies for annual Big 12 Match Play tournament

The Red Raiders head to Hockley, Texas to play in the annual Big 12 Match Play Event which features every Big 12 program
HOCKLEY, Texas – No. 13 Texas Tech is set to participate in the annual Big 12 Men's Match Play tournament, its final tournament of the fall season, Oct. 9-11. The Red Raiders enter the tournament as the defending champion.
The 2023 edition will feature all 14 teams of the new look Big 12 as each BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF join the mix for the event that will take place over three days.
On Monday morning the Red Raiders will match up against West Virginia in the opening round of the tournament. Later that afternoon they will be going up against Kansas. To close out pool play the Red Raiders will be matched against Oklahoma State.
The Red Raiders were put into Pool D and were given the fourth seed for the event. #5 Oklahoma State, #12 Kansas and #13 West Virginia are paired in Pool D along with Tech.
The Red Raiders hope to secure their third victory at this event after winning the first year this event was held in 2019 and then again just last year in 2022. In the past four events, Texas Tech scored 12 points in 2019, one in 2020, 12 in 2021 and eight in 2022.
THE COURSE:Â

THE FORMAT:Â
Match Play will be played for all rounds, each team match will consist of five individual matches. The first three sessions will be pool play, followed by a bracket beginning Wednesday morning. The final round will be played on Wednesday afternoon. Â
All individual matches within each team match will be scored as (3&2, 1 up, halved) and will not be played past 18 holes. Each individual match win will reward that team with one point. If an individual match is tied after 18 holes a half point is awarded to both teams. Once all individual matches are complete the team with the greater point total will be awarded three points and the losing team zero points. If the match is tied at the end of the individual matches both teams will receive one point. Â

FALL REVIEW:Â
Sophomore Matthew ComegysÂ
Comegys competed in the Sahelee Players Championship where he shot 73-75-77 for a top-40 finish. He also participated in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate where he went 5-under-par in the tournament to closeout a top-15 finish. Comegys participated in the Ben Hogan Invitational that took place Oct. 2-3 where he shot 73-70-74 4-over-par. Â
Freshman Ben Gregg Â
Gregg opened his collegiate career playing in the Papago Individual where he shot 68-69-70 6-under-par to finish in second place. Gregg followed that tournament out with an appearance at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate where he shot 2-under-par to finish top-20. Gregg also participated in the Ben Hogan Invitational, and he shot 77-72-69.Â
Freshman Price HillÂ
Hill started his collegiate career off by playing in the Papago Individual where he shot 74-67-68 4-under-par to finish off in third place. He also participated in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate where he shot 78-80-80.Â
Senior Vicente MarzilioÂ
Marzilio made his first appearance as a Red Raider in the Sahalee Players Championship where he shot 71-75-81. Â
Junior Calum ScottÂ
Scott started the fall by playing in the Sahalee Players Championship where he shot 75-71-76 6-over-par to finish in the top-30. He followed that performance up with an appearance at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate where he shot 69-70-67 ten-under-par to finish tied for second.  Scott then went on to play in the Ben Hogan Invitational where he shot 73-68-68 1-under-par.Â
Senior Baard SkogenÂ
Skogen traveled to Washington to play in the Sahalee Players Championship where he shot 71-75-78 8-over-par. He then went to play in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate where he shot 71-72-72 1-under-par to finish top-25. In his last time out, he participated in the Ben Hogan Invitational shooting 70-74-78.Â
Senior Tyran SnydersÂ
Snyders played in the Sahalee Players Championship where he went 78-67-75 4-over-par to finish in the top-20. He then traveled to New Mexico to play in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate where he shot 67-68-71 10-under-par to finish tied with Scott in second place. Snyders then went to the Ben Hogan Invitational where he shot 74-71-76. Â
Super Senior Jack WallÂ
Wall opened his fall season with an appearance at the Sahalee Players Championship where he shot 75-77-81 17-over-par.Â
Freshman Tim Wiedemeyer
Wiedemeyer made his collegiate debut at the Papago Individual where he shot rounds of 68-66-77 2-under-par to closeout in the top-5.Â
