Goalie Madison White and Defender Hannah Anderson became the third and fourth First Team All-Americans in program history
KANSAS CITY – Powered by a pair of First Team All-America selections in goalie Madison White and defender Hannah Anderson, and a pair of Third Team All-America selections for defender Macy Blackburn and midfielder Sam Courtwright, the Texas Tech Soccer programs earned a program-record four All-America honors Friday, as announced by the United Soccer Coaches.
Friday's announcement also came with two more pieces of program history, as White and Anderson became the first set of teammates to be named First Team All-Americans in the same season in program history, while Courtwright became the first freshman in program history to be named an All-American. Courtwright joined Florida State's Jordynn Dudley as the only two freshmen to earn full All-America status.
It's been a big week for both Anderson and White as the duo became the first Texas Tech set of teammates to become Semifinalists for the historic Hermann Award on Tuesday, and earned First Team All-Region honors on Wednesday.
The 2023 Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Year, White was the only goalkeeper selected to the 15-player semifinalist list and became the first goalie in Tech history to be named a semifinalist for the National Player of the Year award.
White tallied a career-best 16 wins in 2023 helping lead a Red Raider backline that allowed just 11 total goals and sported a goals-against-average of 0.47. The all-time leader in clean sheets (39), White closed her decorated five-year career with 52 all-time victories in her 85 starts. The Rockwall native recorded new single-season highs in: clean sheets (13), wins (16), save percentage (.864) and games played (23). White's 13 total clean sheets are currently tied for the nation's lead.
Tech's second First Team All-American, Anderson, scored a career-best five goals and had 12 points. The 2023 Big 12 Defender of the Year, Anderson was also named a First Team All-Big 12 selection, was tabbed a Preseason All-Big 12 selection, and earned First Team All-Region honors for the first time in her decorated career. Anderson closed her Red Raider career by starting 96 consecutive games, the most in program history.
The Red Raiders third All-American also had a career-year in 2023, as Blackburn tallied a pair of goals and 11 assists in 15 games played. Blackburn missed the Red Raiders final seven games of the season after suffering a season-ending injury against TCU, but still ranks third in the country in assists-per-game (0.73) and 14th in total assists. Blackburn needed just one more assist to tie the Red Raiders single-season program-record for assists and currently ranks fourth (23) all-time in helpers.
Another moment of history was made on Friday, as Courtwright became the first true freshman in Tech Soccer history to earn All-America status. The 2023 Big 12 Freshman of the year, Courtwright tallied five goals and eight assists in 23 games played and started. Courtwright's eight total assists are tied for sixth-most in a single-season in Tech history, and rank inside the top-50 nationally.
Anderson, Blackburn, Courtwright and White join Tech greats Janine Beckie, Kirsten Davis, Cassie Hiatt and Jaelene Hinkle as the eight players to earn All-America status in program history.
