Texas Tech downs ACU in first spring match
February 25, 2023 | Women's Soccer
Freshman Storie Sexton tallied two goals
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech downed Abilene Christian, 4-0, in its first spring match Saturday afternoon at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
"It was a solid start to the spring for sure," head coach Tom Stone said. "The midyears got important college minutes, and Hannah Anderson has her back line looking like a force to be reckoned with. There is lots of room to grow, but that's the point of the spring - to get your team ready. We scored four goals and three came from newcomers Sam Courtwright with one and Storie Sexton with two, so overall, it was a nice start for an important spring season for us."
Â
The spring match consisted of three 30-minute periods with unique lineups.
Â
Six mid-year enrollees made their debut for the Red Raiders – Storie Sexton, Lauren Woodruff, Sam Courtwright, Berkley Patterson, Skylar Haase and Olivia Draguicevich.
Â
Sexton quickly made her name known after scoring two of Tech's goals in her first outing in the red and black. Her first goal came in the second period off an assist from Macy Blackburn while her second came off a pass from fellow newcomer Draguicevich.
Â
In the first period, freshman Courtwright got the Red Radiers on the board scoring a header off a cross from Kylie Bahr.
Â
In between the two goals from Sexton, Elise Anderson found Kaitlyn Giametta for the second of three goals in the second period.
Â
Madison White and Madelynn Madden both saw action in the net for the Red Raiders. The duo held Abilene Christian scoreless through all three 30-minute periods.
