The Red Raiders sit +4 after Day One
PHOENIX – Despite a fast start that saw No. 3 Texas Tech MGOLF race out to a share of the lead at -10, the Red Raiders finished Day One action at +4 through 36 holes of the Thunderbird Intercollegiate hosted by No. 5 Arizona State at Papago Golf Club, Friday.
On the day, the Red Raiders were led by Ludivg Aberg and Baard Skogen who each finished the day at -2 overall.
Aberg, who fired an Eagle on the par-five ninth to close his day, recorded consecutive rounds of 71 and 69, while Skogen fired a season-best opening round 68 and a second round 71.
Tech really struggled to close round one, firing a combined team score of +8 on the final nine holes of the first 18, Firday.
The fifth-ranked Sun Devils lead the event after two rounds shooting a combined two round score of -23 overall. No. 19 Arizona fired a second round 271 (-13) to sit one shot back at -22.
No. 21 Oklahoma State and No. 2 North Carolina sit tied for third at -14, followed by No. 13 Texas and SMU who share fifth at -4.
Oregon State (-3), No. 27 Baylor (+2), Notre Dame (+3) and Tech (+4) round out the top-10. Utah (+9) and New Mexico (+14) round out the 12-team field.
Four players including No. 4 David Ford of North Carolina share the lead at -8, with two players just one shot back at -7. Overall, 11 players sit within three shots of the individual lead.
