Hester named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Texas Tech's Nolen Hester was selected as the Big 12 Baseball Newcomer of the Week, announced by the league on Monday. The award covers the Red Raiders' three games played versus Kansas, May 18-20, and is voted upon by a select group of media members.
It is the first weekly award for the Texas Tech fifth-year senior transfer. In three games, Hester batted for a .583 average going 7-for-12 with three doubles, five runs scored, and two RBIs. He had one double in all three games of the series.
The Red Raiders' leadoff hitter reached base in every game of the series, including reaching base four of six times on Friday and all five times he went to the plate on Saturday. He finished with a .667 on-base percentage over the three-game series.
The transfer from Wofford produced three hits in back-to-back games, matching a season-high for hits in a game for the sixth and seventh times this year.
Joining Hester (newcomer) for those selected for Big 12 Baseball Weekly Awards for games ending May 20 were Texas' Dylan Campbell (player) and Oklahoma's Braden Carmichael (pitcher).
