NCBWA tabs Bazzell to Freshman All-America Team

DALLAS – Texas Tech's Kevin Bazzell was named a First-Team Freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the organization announced Monday afternoon. Bazzell is one of 34 standout freshmen from every part of the country who is featured on the NCBWA Freshman All-America Team.
The 2023 NCBWA Freshman All-America Team features a first and second team and players from 29 schools and 13 conferences. Bazzell is the seventh Red Raider named an NCBWA Freshman All-America pick and the first player since Jace Jung in 2019 named a first-team selection by the organization.
Bazzell, a redshirt freshman, started 63 of 64 games, predominantly at third base in 2023. He produced the team's second-best batting average, hitting a .348 average. His 24 doubles rank in the Top 10 in the NCAA, and he was one of four Red Raiders to tally double-digit home runs which helped produce 62 RBI. Bazzell led the team in multi-hit games, logging 28 such games.
Last week, Bazzell was named to Collegiate Baseball News' Freshmen All-American Team. In May, Bazzell was selected to the 2023 All-Big 12 Baseball First-Team as well as a unanimous all-conference all-freshman team choice.
The NCBWA Freshman All-America team is voted upon by the membership of the NCBWA. The 2023 NCBWA National Freshman Player of the Year and National Freshman Pitcher of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 13. To view the entire 2023 NCBWA Freshman All-America Team, visit ncbwa.com.
