Jerand Bradley and Jaylon Hutchings were recognized on the All-Big 12 preseason team Wednesday afternoon
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech sophomore wide receiver Jerand Bradley and super senior defensive lineman Jaylon Hutchings were named Wednesday to the All-Big 12 preseason team that was determined by media members who regularly cover the conference.
This is the most-significant preseason accolade to date for both Hutchings and Bradley, who were each named honorable mention All-Big 12 selections following the 2022 season. The All-Big 12 preseason team was made up of 29 players from across the league's 14 teams.
Bradley's selection follows a breakout redshirt freshman season a year ago where he led the Red Raiders with 51 catches for 744 yards and six touchdowns through the air. In the process, Bradley became only the sixth Red Raider freshman since 1972 to lead the team in receiving yards, joining a prestigious list that features Erik Ezukanma (2019), Michael Crabtree (2007), Taurean Henderson (2002), Sheldon Bass (1994) and Wayne Walker (1985).
Hutchings, meanwhile, will be among the most-experienced defensive linemen in the country entering this season as he has made 46 starts over his career up front for the Red Raiders. A native of Forney, Texas, Hutchings has totaled 149 tackles for his career, including 18.5 for a loss and 7.5 sacks. He is coming off his best season as a Red Raider with 50 stops in 2022 and 5.5 tackles that went for a loss.
The preseason team selections were released exactly one week from the unofficial start to the college football season as Big 12 Media Days will run July 12-13 from AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Both Bradley and Hutchings will be part of the Texas Tech contingent at the annual event as they will be joined by head coach Joey McGuire, quarterback Tyler Shough, running back Tahj Brooks and defensive lineman Tony Bradford Jr. on July 13.
Coverage of Big 12 Media Days can be found both days via ESPNU, which will feature interviews with the head coaches and student-athletes in attendance. McGuire will meet with the media in attendance around 10:10 a.m. that morning, which will be carried live via Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
Preseason accolades will continue to roll in for the Red Raiders throughout the next several weeks ahead of the Sept. 2 season opener at Wyoming. Texas Tech opens its home slate the following weekend with a primetime 6 p.m. kick against Oregon.
