Tech sits second after 36 holes of Sahlee

In a field that features three top-10 teams and 10 top-25 teams the Red Raiders finished at +1 for the day
SAMMAMISH, Wash. – The No. 17 ranked Texas Tech men's golf program finished the opening 36 holes of the Sahlee Players Championship in second place (+1) Saturday.
In an absolutely loaded field, that featured three of the nation's top-10 programs and 10 of the top-25 in the Preseason Bushnell Coaches Poll, Tech shined on Saturday, using rounds of 290 (first) and 287 (second) to sit a +1 for the event.
After struggling in the first round firing a 78, senior Tyran Snyders caught fire during Saturday's second round, using five birdies without a bogey on the back nine to card a five-under round of 67 to finish the day at +1.
He is tied for 11th with teammate Vicente Marzillo who used a strong round of 71 and a 74 to also end the day at one-over par. Â
Marzilio, who made his Red Raider debut after being a three-time all-conference selection and CUSA Freshman of the Year in the 2020-21 season, fired rounds of 71 and 74.
A pair of other Red Raiders find themselves inside the events top-20 after 36 holes, as both Calum Scott and Baard Skogen recorded alternating rounds of 75 and 71. Scott closed the day with his 71 while Skogen ended with his 71.
Tech's fifth and final player, sophomore Matthew Comegys finished the day at +4 overall, after firing rounds of 71 and 75.
As previously mentioned, the Red Raiders finished their first day in Washington in sole possession of second place.
No. 9 Illinois closed the day at -9 overall to take a 10-shot lead into Sunday's third and final round. Tech enjoys a two-shot advantage over No. 11 Texas, No. 16 Oklahoma State and No. 19 Arizona who are all tied for third at +3.
No. 2 Arizona State is in sixth at +6, five shots clear of the host (RV) Washington who sits at +11. No. 23 Duke (+13), USC (+19), No. 7 Stanford (+22), No. 25 Wake Forest (+24) and No. 15 Pepperdine (+26) round out the 12-team field.

The Red Raiders will tee it up for the third and final round on Sunday. Tech's five players will tee off between 10:45 a.m. (CT) and 11:35 a.m. (CT).
