Lady Raiders picked sixth in Big 12 Poll

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders were picked to finish sixth by the conference head coaches in the preseason Big 12 poll as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Last season, the Lady Raiders collected 14 wins on the year, five of those being against ranked opponents, including a top-20 victory against the Kansas Jayhawks. Texas Tech finished tied for fifth in the Big 12 last season and made their 11th-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The Lady Raiders had a dominant fall season after competing in five total tournaments and recording 42 singles victories and 27 doubles wins. The fall was highlighted by a quarterfinal appearance at the ITA Fall National Championships for tandem Avelina Sayfetdinova and Metka Komac, who also won the doubles title at ITA Texas Regionals, while the duo of Andreea Lila and Jermine Sherif earned the doubles trophy at the Big 12 Fall Championships.
In addition, Lila and Sherif were impressive in singles as the pairing won eight and seven matches, respectively, to lead the team. Cristina Tiglea had the most ranked singles wins of the fall when she totaled three in her six victories. Yekaterina Dmitrichenko was right behind as she picked up two ranked wins while Komac and Sherif each tallied one apiece.
The Lady Raiders will begin their Spring slate on Jan. 21 with a home match against the Liberty Lady Flames at the McLeod Tennis Center.
