Tech finishes sixth at Big 12 Match Play Tournament

HOCKLEY, Texas – The Texas Tech men's golf team fell 1-2-2 in match play on Wednesday morning against Oklahoma State, a fifth-place match on the final day of the Big 12 Match Play Tournament at Houston Oaks Country Club. The Red Raiders finished the event in sixth place, ending the three-day affair with wins against Baylor, Cincinnati and TCU and losses to Colorado and the Cowboys.

Senior Calum Scott earned the Red Raiders sole point in their loss to the Cowboys on Wednesday. Scott finished three shots up with two holes left to secure his second win for the team across the tournament. He participated in three matches of the five, winning twice and tying once.

Freshman Sean Keeling and senior Charlie DeLong both finished in a tie in their matches versus Oklahoma State. Keeling made a clutch birdie to win his final hole, escaping a loss to his opponent to secure the tie. DeLong trailed by as many as two after 13 holes in a match he never led but battled back winning the 14th and 17th holes while matching scores on 15, 16 and 18 to earn a tie. DeLong played all five matches, winning three, and dropped one to go along with Wednesday's tie.

Freshman Connor Graham dropped his second straight match after winning his first three. He led by as many as three over the first nine holes but on the back half could not hang on. Graham had a strong showing overall, carding 28 birdies, the second-most throughout the three days among all individuals in the tournament and also tallied his second eagle of the season in that stretch.

The Big 12 Match Play Tournament at Houston Country Club concludes the fall season for the Texas Tech men's golf team. The Red Raiders will be back in action at the Amer Ari Intercollegiate at Mauna Lani Golf Club in Waimea, Hawai'i, Feb. 6-8.
