Men's golf welcomes trio of Red Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech men's golf head coach Greg Sands announced on Wednesday the addition of three Red Raiders – Adam Bresnu (Morocco), Simon Hovdal (Sweden) and Brady McHenry (USA, California) – in conjunction with the 2024-25 National Signing period opening. Hovdal and McHenry will join the 2025-26 roster as freshmen while Bresnu will join it as a junior.Â
Adam Bresnu | Rabat, Morocco | Odessa College
Bresnu is a sophomore at Odessa College in Odessa, Texas this fall and is currently ranked as the No. 1 golfer at the NJCAA-I level, via Clippd by Scoreboard individual rankings.
"I'm pumped about Adam joining our program," said Sands. "He has dominated junior college golf. His coach, Brad Stracke, at Odessa, has done a great job of helping Adam develop. He is competitive and hungry to prove himself at the highest level, and he loves Texas Tech and the opportunity ahead."
Bresnu is having a fall season for the ages, winning his first three events and four of six overall this fall.
Bresnu won his first event of the fall by seven strokes by firing a 16-under-par 128 (64-64) at the Andrews Collegiate Amateur, Sept. 7-8. At the next event, Sept. 15-17, Bresnu won by eight strokes after shooting a 12-under-par 201 (70-66-65) at the Fold of Honor Challenge before the next week securing a tie for first by carding an 18-under 198 (65-65-68) in Ruidoso, New Mexico at the High Country Shootout. In the two events he did not win, he finished second and seventh, respectively. Bresnu closed the fall season at Odessa's own Paul Chavez Invitational, clinching his fourth first-place finish of the fall with a 13-under-par 203 (67-71-65).
With 17 rounds logged in the fall of 2024, Bresnu owns a 67.1 scoring average with four wins, five top-three's and six top-10's. Bresnu's win at the Folds of Honor Challenge earned him an exemption to compete in the 2024 Patriot All-America Invitational, Dec. 29-31.Â
This is after finishing his freshman year as the No. 4 ranked NJCAA golfer owning a 70.3 scoring average over 40 rounds. Over the summer, Bresnu finished tied for 13th in the Southwestern Amateur (69-72-70-71), held June 12-15, at Desert Mountain Golf Club, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The Moroccan native is currently ranked the 16th-best golfer who hails from the continent of Africa, as ranked by the World Amateur Golf Rankings, and No. 368 overall.Â
Simon Hovdal | Vallda, Sweden
Hovdal hails from Varberg, Sweden by way of Vallda, Sweden. Hovdal is currently ranked No. 34 among all European golfers in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and No. 149 overall.
His 2024 summer also included a fourth-place finish at the St. Andrews Links Trophy tournament. He was 3-under at the 72-hole event that was led by an impressive 6-under 66 second round at The Old Course - fellow Red Raider Calum Scott finished third at the same event. At the 57th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship at Chambers Bay, July 23-26, Hovdal shot an impressive 8-under-par 276 to secure a top-five finish.
Hovdal was the winner of the 2023 Jacques Léglise Trophy at St. Andrews Links - the Jacques Léglise Trophy is the under-18 equivalent of the St Andrews Trophy. Hovdal also won the Annika Sörenstam Trophy in 2023, a year after being the runner-up, which is awarded to both genders, who lead their respective Swedish Junior Tour Order-of-Merit. He was joined in 2023 by Alexandra Berglund, who is now a freshman at Missouri. Hovdal has also been active in competitions in the United States Junior Amateur and Junior Players Amateur tournaments.
Prior to winning the 2024 gold with the men's Swedish team at the European Mens' Team Championship, he helped lead Team Sweden to gold in the 2023 European Boys' Team Championship.
Hovdal is a product of "The Rig" in Sweden, which is part of Filbornaskolan High School in Helsingborg, Sweden - a national sports high school that allows juniors to combine school and elite sports.
Brady McHenry | Ventura, Calif.
McHenry, a Ventura, Calif. native, attends Buena High School and is currently ranked in the top 100 Rolex American Junior Golf Association rankings. McHenry has earned six top-10 finishes at AJGA events.
"Brady is such a talented young man who has all the tools and skills to be an incredible collegiate player," said Sands. "He has elite speed and a beautiful golf swing. Brady is just scratching the surface with his potential, and I can't wait to see what's in store for him at Texas Tech. We are thankful he chose to be a Red Raider over some other great golf programs. He is a great person and comes from an amazing family; he will fit in great with our culture."
Since joining the AJGA, McHenry has finished as high as third having placed tied for third at the PGA WEST Junior Championship, June 19-21, 2024, by firing a 5-under 211 (72-68-71) at the Jack Nicklaus tournament course. McHenry's lowest 54-hole score at an AJGA-sanctioned event was 14-under-par 202 (68-66-68) at the 2024 Mizuno West Coast Classic, March 15-17, 2024, to earn him a top-five finish.
McHenry has an average finishing position in AJGAÂ events in the top 30 across the eight tournaments he has played in. McHenry has also played on the Southern California PGA Junior Tour where he was named the 2023 Player of the Year thanks to two top-three finishes, four top-10 finishes and multiple finishes in the top 25. McHenry has competed in the 2023 and 2024 US Junior Amateur, the 2024 Junior Player, the 2024 California Amateur and the 2024 SCGA Amateur Tournament.
He earned his spot at the 2024 United States Junior Amateur by being the top qualifier on June 17 at Victoria Club in Riverside, California by firing a 6-under 66 to lead a field of 78 players.
On the CIF high school circuit (California Interscholastic Federation), the then-high school junior (May 2024) finished tied for second at the Channel League tournament with teammate Adam Anderson after shooting a two-day total of 4-under 140 to earn all-league first-team honors for the second straight season. McHenry shot a 69 to tie for 11th at the Northern Individual Regional Tournament and advanced to the CIF-SS Individuals. He missed the CIF finals to play in a California Amateur qualifier, where he shot a 3-under 69 to tie for fourth. McHenry reached the state regional tournament in his freshman and sophomore seasons.
