No. 19 Tech, Snyders sit atop The Prestige after round one
February 19, 2024 | Men's Golf
LA QUINTA, Calif. — Senior Tyran Snyders fired a season-low 6-under-par 65 to lead an impressive round one performance for the No. 19 Texas Tech men's golf team on Monday, which ended day one of The Prestige in sole possession of first place on the team leaderboard. The Red Raiders, who shot a collective 13-under-par 271, are followed by Kansas State and No. 5 Washington, who sit in a tie for second place after scoring a 10-under-par 274.Â
Like each of his first two spring events, Snyders recorded a sub-70 round one, as he currently holds a slim lead over a crowded top of the leaderboard that features a four-way tie for second place. Snyders' bogey-free day included four birdies and an eagle on hole No. 12, as he earned his lowest round since the 2023 Vaspar Collegiate (7-under-par 64).
Tech saw each of its four counting scores finish within the top 20 on the individual leaderboard. Matthew Comegys (3-under-par 68) used four birdies and a bogey-free round one to place himself in a seven-way tie for 12th place, while Calum Scott and Price Hill both fired a 4-under-par 69 to finish the day tied for 19th. Senior Baard Skogen sits four strokes back from the rest of the Red Raiders at 2-over-par 73.
Competing in the individual circuit at the Golf Club at Terra Lago, Charles DeLong turned in his best round in a Tech uniform with a 2-under-par 70, while freshman Ben Gregg made his spring debut with a 1-over-par 73 in round one.
The Red Raiders return to the Greg Norman Course at PGA West on Tuesday and Wedensday for two more rounds of 18. Along with members of the Oregon State and Baylor teams, Tech will tee-off on hole No. 1 starting with Baard Skogen at 7:40 a.m. PT (9:40 a.m. CT).
