No. 19 Tech maintains first place position at The Prestige
February 20, 2024 | Men's Golf
LA QUINTA, Calif. — With the help of a season-best 6-under-par 65 from senior Baard Skogen, the No. 19 Texas Tech men's golf team saw their lead increase to 10 strokes after round two of The Prestige on Tuesday. The round was Skogen's lowest since he fired a 7-under-par 65 as a sophomore at the 2022 Amer Ari Intercollegiate, which propelled the senior into the top 15 of the individual leaderbord, where he sits in a seven-way tie for 13th place.Â
With Skogen's ascension on the leaderboard, the Red Raiders (-24) currently boast a tournament-best four players in the top 20 of the individual leaderboard. Tyran Snyders leads the way at T-7th after going bogey-free with three birdies on his final 11 holes to finish the day even-par, while Matthew Comegys and Calum Scott both sit immediately behind Snyders in a tie for 10th place. Comegys posted his fifth straight round in the 60's with a 2-under-par 69 on Tuesday, while Scott posted four birdies to just one bogey on his day.
Though his card does not count towards Tech's collective team score, participating on the individual circuit at the nearby Golf Club at Terra Lago, Charles DeLong finished his day in sole possession of first place of a 61-player field. He followed up a 2-under-par 70 by firing a 4-under-par 68 in round two of the individual event.
After finishing in second place at last year's Prestige tournament, the Red Raiders will look to take home the 2024 team title on Wednesday.
