March 09, 2024 | Softball
PROVO, Utah – The Red Raiders dropped their first Big 12 game of the season 8-10 to BYU on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Texas Tech (19-5, 2-1) still secured the series win after with victories on Thursday and Friday. The Cougars (15-6, 1-2) offense showed up after being shutout in Friday's game.
Â
Aubrey Barnahrt led off the game with a solo shot to right field as Tech jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. The Cougars responded promptly with three runs and then put up three runs again in the second to take a 6-2 lead.
Â
Riley Love and Demi Elder each launched a two-run homer in the third to tie the game before scoring slow down for the next two innings.
Â
Both BYU and Tech had chances to blow the game open in the fourth and fifth innings, but timely double-plays and good overall defense shut down any runs.
Â
Finally, the Cougars were able to break through as they hit a grand-slam in the bottom of the sixth.
Â
Kailey Wyckoff hit a solo shot in the top of the seventh and Barnhart drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in another run and make things interesting, but BYU was able to secure the last out leaving the game at 10-8.
Â
UP NEXT- Â The Red Raiders will be back at Rocky Johnson Field on Tuesday as they play a doubleheader against New Mexico beginning at 12 p.m.
