Scott selected for Arnold Palmer Cup
April 23, 2024 | Men's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech's Calum Scott was selected to compete at the Arnold Palmer Cup this summer, July 5-7, announced Tuesday live on the Golf Channel. The junior from Scotland was named as one of 12 for the International Men's Team.Â
Â
The Arnold Palmer Cup is a Ryder Cup-style tournament heading into its 28th year, held this year at the famed Irish links at Lahinch Golf Club, which will feature the top men's and women's college golfers pitting the United States against a team of international players.
Â
Both teams consist of 12 men's and 12 women's golfers. For 2024, 11 of the 12 international golfers were committee selections for both the men's team and women's team. One of the committee selections for each gender must have been a representative from the R&A Student Tour Series. A coach's pick for each of the men's and women's teams was the final selection on the team and designated as such. The United States team selection process was the same with the exception that one of the committee selections must be a non-Division I golfer versus the R&A picks on the international side. A coach's pick was the final selection of the team, alike the international team.
In December, it was announced that Garrett Runion of LSU and Matt Thurmond of Arizona State will be Team USA co-head coaches while Australia's Rhyll Brinsmead and Ireland's Barry Fennelly will lead Team International.
Â
Texas Tech has a long history of being represented at the Arnold Palmer Cup as Scott's selection is the 12th since 2011 and the seventh of the last eight years. Past participants include Nils Floren (2011), Clement Sordet (2015), Hannes Ronneblad (2017), Fredrik Nilehn (2017, 2018), Hurly Long (2018), Ivan Ramirez (2019), Sandy Scott (2019), Ludvig Aberg (2020, 2022) and Tyran Snyders (2023). In addition, head coach Greg Sands served as the Team USA head coach in 2021.Â
Â
Last year, Team USA won the 2023 edition of the Arnold Palmer Cup by a score of 32-28 at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Penn. The event consists of three days of play featuring a Four-Ball Match (Better Ball), two Foursomes Matches (Alternate Shot), and Singles Matches.
