Lasmane earns Big 12 weekly honor

Lasmane opened her outdoor season last weekend at the Texas Relays

IRVING, Texas – Senior triple jumper Ruta Lasmane was named the Co-Big 12 Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon. She shares the award with Iowa State's Janette Schraft.

The 2024 NCAA Indoor champion last month, Lasmane opened her outdoor season bounding 13.88m (45-6 ½) (2.5w) on her first attempt. That mark currently leads the country over USC's Temitope Ojora, who held the top mark last week at 13.71m (44-1 ¾) (2.1w).

For Lasmane, it's her best season-opening outdoor mark. Her next competition will be aimed at the Tom Jones Memorial next weekend, hosted by Florida on April 12-13.
