No. 14 Tech tied for sixth at Baton Rouge Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. — The No. 14 Texas Tech men's golf team opened NCAA Regional play on Monday, carding a 4-over-par 292, in round one of the Baton Rouge Regional hosted at the par-72, 7,401-yard University Club of Baton Rouge. Tech's team score placed them in a tie for sixth place, along with Oregon, out of the 14 teams in action; both teams sit one shot back of Duke for the fifth and final advancing spot with two rounds remaining.
Junior Calum Scott and senior Baard Skogen led Tech's round-one effort, as both Red Raiders finished the day inside the top 10 on the individual leaderboard. Scott used four birdies to card a 2-under-par 70 and is tied for fourth, while Skogen finished a solid day at 1-under-par 71 and is tied for ninth.?There are 75 total players in the field.
Rounding out Tech's scoring in the first round was Matthew Comegys, who contributed a 3-over-par 75, as well as seniors Tyran Snyders and Vicente Marzilio, who both finished the day 4-over-par (76).
The Red Raiders return to the links Tuesday for round two of the 54-hole regional, with Marzilio scheduled to open Tech's second round at 8:30 a.m. CT. The Red Raiders will start round two off on hole No. 10 with tee times between 8:30 and 9:14 a.m.
The top five teams and one individual will advance to the National Championship; between the 14 teams at the Baton Rouge Regional, Texas Tech will need to finish as one of the top five teams. Of teams that fail to qualify, the lowest individual scorer will advance to the finals, which will be decided between the nine non-advancing teams and the five who qualified for the regional as an individual.
