Lady Raiders to play in Paradise Jam Tournament
June 07, 2024 | Women's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders will travel to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands from Nov. 26 through Dec. 1 to participate in the annual U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam tournament.
There are two separate, four-team events that take place – the Island and the Reef Tournaments. The Island Tournament teams include Auburn, Kansas, Northern Iowa and Pittsburgh, while Texas Tech joins Florida State, Gonzaga and Missouri State in the Reef Tournament.
This will be Texas Tech's third Paradise Jam appearance and first in 16 years. In Tech's first Paradise Jam during the 2000-01 season, the Lady Raiders went undefeated after picking up wins over Penn State and Southwest Missouri State, now called Missouri State.
The Lady Raiders went back to Paradise Jam in the 2008-09 season where they dropped games to Iowa, California and South Florida, making their overall record 2-3 at the tournament.
Texas Tech owns an all-time 2-0 record over both Missouri State and Florida State and will be competing against Gonzaga for the first time in program history. Tech played the Seminoles in 1984 and 1994, most recently winning by a 66-44 score. The Lady Raiders last faced Missouri State in 2003, winning the game, 67-59.
