Six Red Raiders ready for U.S. Amateur

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's golf team will have two-thirds of its upcoming 2024-25 roster in action at the 124th United States Amateur, beginning Monday morning. This year's event will be held at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn, Aug. 12-18.Â
Red Raiders featured this week will be (tee times):
Scott enters the U.S. Amateur ranked No. 12 in the Top 20 of the Men's World Amateur Golf Ranking® as of Aug. 7. He will have associate head coach James Vargas as his caddie, like at The Open. Meanwhile, head coach Greg Sands will be on the bag for Comegys this week.
Overall, there are 312 players assembled who will play a stroke play round at Hazeltine, and one stroke play round at co-host Chaska Town Course, on Monday and Tuesday. After which, the field will be trimmed to 64 for match play, which runs Wednesday through Sunday's 36-hole championship match. The champion and runner-up both will receive exemptions into the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont (Pa.) Country Club as well as likely invitations to the Masters Tournament in April. The winner also gets a spot in the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
