LUBBOCK, Texas – There were nine Texas Tech Red Raiders suited up for week one of the 2024 NFL season. It was highlighted by Patrick Mahomes II and Kansas City in a rematch of last season's AFC Championship game against Baltimore that came down to a toe-tap while several rookies made their league debuts.
A complete list of statistics by former Red Raiders in the NFL is below.
ARIZONA CARDINALS at Buffalo Bills (L, 34-28)
S Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (2019-23): Taylor-Demerson made his NFL debut playing 21 snaps on special teams, accounting for 78 percent of the Cardinals' special teams snaps.
DL Broderick Washington Jr. (2016-19): He and the Ravens fell to the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night, 27-20 – the first NFL game of the 2024 season.
OL Terence Steele (2016-19):Â Steele and the Cowboys posted a dominant 33-17 win over the Cleveland Browns to open the season. Continuing to be a staple at right tackle, Steele played 100 percent of the snaps on offense.
DE Myles Cole (2022-23): Cole saw 12 snaps (one on special teams) in his NFL debut as Jacksonville dropped its season opener to Miami, 20-27, thanks to a 52-yard field goal as time expired.
QB Patrick Mahomes II (2014-16): Mahomes and the Chiefs kicked off the 2024 NFL season on Thursday night with a rematch of the 2024 AFC Championship game versus the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs outscored the Ravens, 14-10, in the second half but a last-second toe-tap in the back of the endzone from Baltimore nearly sent the game into overtime as the call was reversed to an incomplete pass.Â
DE Tyree Wilson (2020-22): Wilson saw the field for a total of eight plays, six on defense and two on special teams, before exiting the game in the third quarter with a knee injury.
LB Jordyn Brooks (2016-19): Brooks made his debut as a Miami Dolphin starting at linebacker playing all 53 defensive snaps, while also seeing three snaps on special teams. The Dolphins opened the season with a 20-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, connecting on a 52-yard field goal as time expired.
LB Sam Eguavoen (2011-14): Much like last season, Eguavoen was called up to the active roster from the practice squad on game week to assist the Jets' special teams unit.Â
DB Tyler Owens (2022-23): Made his NFL debut contributing 16 snaps on special teams, accounting for 59 percent of the Commanders' snaps on special teams.
