Graham leads Red Raiders in first round at Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, IL – Freshman Connor Graham led the Red Raiders in the first round of the Fighting Illini Invitational on Friday after shooting a 1-under-par 69 at Olympia Fields Country Club. Graham carded four birdies including one after play was paused for a one-hour weather delay. Graham is tied for 11th among a field of 78 while the Red Raiders sit 12th as a team out of the 15 in action.

Senior Calum Scott finished in a tie for 22nd with an even-par 70, owning the Red Raiders' second-best first-round score. The senior, who is competing in his 37th career event, carded a bogey-free 1-under par front nine on his way to shooting 70.

Sophomores Ben Gregg and Tim Wiedemeyer are tied for third on the Red Raider's scorecard, each shooting a 4-over-par 74 in the first round. Gregg opened the round strong with two birdies but struggled over the remainder of the front nine as he finished 4-over (39); he shot even-par over the final nine holes of the round. Meanwhile, Wiedemeyer was even-par through the first 15 holes of his first round but had two bogeys and a double bogey to finish the afternoon. Gregg and Wiedemeyer sit in a tie for 53rd on the individual leaderboard.

Overall, Texas Tech is in 12th place at 7-over-par (287). The Red Raiders lead Alabama by four strokes and trail Texas A&M by only one stroke.

The Red Raiders will be back on the tee box for round two, starting at 7:45 a.m. CT, with Charlie DeLong teeing off first for the team.
