Red Raiders receive preseason praise by Golf Channel
September 04, 2024 | Men's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's golf team received considerable honors from the Golf Channel on Wednesday morning, being tabbed its preseason No. 4 team in the nation while also naming senior Calum Scott and junior Matthew Comegys to its All-America team. Scott was named a preseason first-team All-American while Comegys was dubbed a preseason honorable mention All-American.Â
In addition to Comegys and Scott, the Red Raiders are set to return this season four others from the 2023-24 squad that finished as the No. 14 team in the country. In addition, three newcomers join the fold, including freshmen Connor Graham and Sean Keeling, who are top 100 European players in the World Golf Rankings.Â
Scott, who debuted as the No. 4 golfer in the PGA TOUR U preseason Top 25 for the Class of 2025 on July 31, and was named to the Golfweek preseason All-America second-team earlier this week, continues to bolster his resume. Meanwhile, Comegys who was one of six Texas Tech student-athletes welcomed to Team Mahomes last month, an exclusive NIL deal with adidas and Patrick Mahomes, is well on his way to showing why he was named to such a deal. The former 2022 6A UIL Texas State Champion out of Plano West HS, finished his sophomore season by being named to the PING All-Region Team and also a Golf Coaches Association All-America scholar.
