Scott named to Haskins Award Watch List
September 04, 2024 | Men's Golf
COLUMBUS, Ga. – Texas Tech's Calum Scott was revealed as one of 25 golfers tabbed to the Haskins Award Fall Watch List on Wednesday morning, one of the most coveted awards in collegiate golf, managed by the Fred Haskins Foundation. Since 1971, the Fred Haskins Award has been annually given to the best male golfer in college golf as voted on by only college golfers, coaches and members of the golf media.
Scott, who finished his junior season at Texas Tech by trying for 11th at the national championships at La Costa and ensuingly named an honorable mention All-American, is back for his 2024-25 senior season after an even more eventful summer.
A summer headlined by winning the Silver Medal at The Open, Scott starts the fall having already been ranked No. 4 in the Class of 2025 PGA TOUR U rankings and is currently ranked No. 12 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. He's also been tabbed a preseason first-team All-American by Golf Channel and a preseason second-team All-American by Golfweek.
Scott will seek to follow in the footsteps of a former teammate this season, as he watched Ludvig Aberg win the Haskins Award during his sophomore year (2022-23). Past winners of the Haskins Award, alike Aberg, have gone on to have successful professional careers.Â
The Red Raiders begin their season, Sept. 9-10, at the Inverness Collegiate. The annual event features some of the best teams college golf has to offer and will have coverage on ESPN+.
2024-2025 Haskins Award Fall Watch List (listed alphabetically):
Beginning in 1971, the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel is annually given to the top male U.S. collegiate golfer as voted on by only college golfers, coaches and members of the golf media. Past winners of the Haskins Award presented by Stifel have captured 33 major championships and more than 400 professional tournaments around the world. Named in honor of Fred Haskins, the award is managed by the Haskins Foundation to acknowledge the top male golfer at the end of the season and to match the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel, which acknowledges the top female Division I collegiate golfer.
Stifel, one of the nation's leading wealth management and investment banking firms, serves as the presenting sponsor of both the ANNIKA and Haskins Awards, recognizing annually the most outstanding NCAA Division I female and male college golfers. Stifel also serves as a presenting sponsor for the NCAA Division I Women's and Men's Golf Championships on GOLF Channel.
About Fred Haskins and the Haskins Foundation
From the seaside town of Liverpool to a quaint Donald Ross course in Georgia, Fred Haskins built a reputation for mentoring young golfers. Haskins was head professional at the Country Club of Columbus for 34 years, recommended for the position by the legendary Bobby Jones. His proteges learned the game in Saturday morning classes that cost a nickel. They went on to win more than 150 collegiate and amateur tournaments. Since its formation in 1971, the Haskins Foundation has been devoted to amateur golf and the presentation of the Haskins Award. This coveted trophy honors the year's outstanding college golfer and the memory of Fred Haskins, a club professional that spent his life nurturing and mentoring amateur golfers. The foundation, based in Columbus, Ga., oversees the voting for the Haskins Award conducted among college golfers, coaches and college golf media.
