The duo each earned Preseason All-Big 12 honors and were included inside the top-10 of the outlets Top-MLB Draft Prospects
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech Baseball infielders Damian Bravo and TJ Pompey have been named to the Perfect Game Preseason All-Big 12 Team the outlets announced Friday.
Â
As part of its preseason content, the outlet named a 16-man "Preseason All-Conference" squad that included one catcher, a first baseman, a second baseman, a shortstop, a third baseman, an infield spot, three outfielders, a designated hitter, a utility spot, four starting pitchers and one reliever.
Â
The Red Raiders were tied for the most selections (2) amongst the 14-team league and were one of 10 schools to have at least one player included on the 16-man team.
Â
Looking to make the full-time switch from outfield to middle infield, Bravo was the outlets pick at second base, as the Haltom City native will look to build upon a dynamic 2024 season that saw him finish as the Big 12s Batting Champion (.378) and finished fifth in the league in doubles.
Â
Bravo hit four home runs, drove in 44 and scored 52 runs in his first full season of action. Bravo's .378 average was the highest by a Red Raider since 2018 when Josh Jung hit .392.
Â
In addition to his spot on the Preseason All-Big 12 team, Perfect Game also tabbed Bravo as the 10th-best 2025 MLB Draft Prospect in the Big 12 Conference.
Â
A Preseason Third Team All-American and two-time Freshman All-American, Pompey also took home preseason honors as the utility player.
Â
Pompey will look to build on a strong 2024 season in 2025. A consensus top-100 prospect coming out of high school a season ago, Pompey flashed in his first season with the Red Raiders hitting .279 with 10 home runs, 49 RBIs and 41 runs scored.
Â
Named a Freshman All-American by both the NCBWA and by Perfect game, Pompey finished fourth on the team in homers, third in RBIs and sixth in runs scored. The infielder also went 12-for-14 on stolen base attempts and was named a Big 12 All-Freshman team selection. In addition to his Preseason All-Big 12 nod, Pompey also was named the top prospect in the Big 12 for the 2026 MLB Draft.
Â
As part of Friday's announcement Freshman Jace Souza was also tabbed the No. 3 overall prospect in the Big 12 for the 2027 draft and Tracer Lopez was selected as the No. 12 prospect in the Big 12 in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Friday's honors for Bravo, Pompey, Lopez and Souza close a busy month of honors for the Red Raiders as five different Red Raiders were included on the Top-100 players by class that PG released.
Â
The Red Raiders highest two inclusions on the lists were senior Trendan Parish (No. 20) and infielder Peyton Shulze (No. 22). The duo were joined on the list by Pompey (No. 30; Sophomores), Bravo (No. 79; Junior) and Souza (No. 28; Freshmen).
Â
Texas Tech Baseball opens the 2025 season on Friday, Feb. 14 when they travel to Chapel Hill for a three-game set against No. 6 UNC. First pitch from Boshamer Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
