Bravo, Pompey earn D1Baseball Top-50 recognition
January 31, 2025 | Baseball
LUBBOCK, Texas – After Peyton Shulze was recognized as one of the top-50 first basemen in all of college baseball, D1Baseball included two more Red Raiders on their most recent lists, as junior Damian Bravo and sophomore TJ Pompey were named the No. 10 second base prospect and the No. 25 third base prospect respectively.
Â
The honor for Bravo comes on the heels of being named to the Preseason All-Big 12 team after winning the 2024 Big 12 Conference batting title. The Haltom City native hit .378 a season ago and had 21 doubles, four home runs and 44 RBIs in his 210 plate appearances.
Â
Bravo finished with the highest full season batting average by a Red Raider since 2018 when Josh Jung hit .392 in 2018 and also won the Big 12 batting title.
Â
Tech's other top-50 player, Pompey, is coming off a strong freshman campaign that saw him earn Freshman All-American status by both the NCBWA and Perfect game.
Â
A consensus top-100 prospect coming out of high school a season ago, Pompey flashed in his first season with the Red Raiders hitting .279 with 10 home runs, 49 RBIs and 41 runs scored.
Â
Pompey finished fourth on the team in homers, third in RBIs and sixth in runs scored. The infielder also went 12-for-14 on stolen base attempts and was named a Big 12 All-Freshman team selection last season and a preseason Third Team All-American.
Â
Bravo, Pompey and the Red Raiders open the 2025 season two weeks from today at No. 6 North Carolina. First pitch from Chapel Hill is set for 3 p.m. (CT).
