Both players earned their league-leading third weekly honor of the season
IRVING, Texas – Fresh off a three-goal week including her third brace of the season, Taylor Zdrojewski has earned Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week while defender Macy Blackburn took home Defensive Player of the Week the Big 12 announced Wednesday.
The awards for both players are their third of the season which ties for the most amongst all players in the league.
A native of Celina, Zdrojewski became the first Red Raider since Janine Beckie to reach back-to-back 10 goal seasons and became just the third player in program history to reach double-digit goals in consecutive seasons.
After breaking a three-match scoreless streak on Thursday night, Zdrojewski scored twice on Sunday afternoon to lead the Red Raiders to a key victory over No. 21 Kansas that vaulted the Red Raiders into solo first place in the Big 12 standings.
The brace was Zdrojewski third of the season and fourth career, as the forward moved into a tie for 10th all-time on the goals list with 18.
Coming off a goal and an assist in the 2-0-0 week, Blackburn also earned her third Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honor this season on Wednesday. In addition to her offensive prowess, Blackburn helped the Red Raiders record their second and third consecutive clean sheets and limited a potent Kansas attack to just seven total shots.
The nation's leader in assists by a defender and second overall in helpers, Blackburn moved into a tie for fourth all-time on the Big 12 assist list and increased her program record total to 42, 15 more than the previous record holder Taylor Lytle.
Checking in as a consensus top-15 program, No. 11/9 Texas Tech welcomes No. 17/15 TCU on Friday night for the only battle between 10-win teams in the country this week. First touch from Walker is set for 7 p.m.
