Kickoff between the No. 5 Red Raiders and Mountaineers is slated for 11 a.m. CT Saturday in Morgantown
LUBBOCK, Texas – The regular-season finale between No. 5 Texas Tech and West Virginia has been set for an 11 a.m. CT kick Saturday from Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown, the Big 12 Conference announced Sunday morning as part of its six-day television selections. Television coverage will be provided on ESPN.
The Red Raiders (10-1; 7-1) will be looking to secure their first-ever appearance in the Edward Jones Big 12 Championship with a win over the Mountaineers (4-7; 2-6). While a win will be important for Texas Tech's College Football Playoff standing, the Red Raiders could also potentially clinch prior to Saturday with an Arizona State loss in its in-state rivalry game Friday evening against Arizona.
The Red Raiders can match the single-season school record for wins at West Virginia as the Red Raiders finished 11-1 in both 1953 and 1973 as well as 11-2 in 2008. Texas Tech reached the 11-win mark with a victory in its bowl game during both the 1953 and 1973 seasons, making the 2008 campaign the only time the Red Raiders have recorded 11 regular-season wins. Texas Tech secured the seventh 10-win season in program history against UCF as the Red Raiders improved to 10-1 overall heading into this weekend's regular-season finale at West Virginia.
This is the second-consecutive year the Red Raiders have closed the regular season against the Mountaineers after Texas Tech ran away with a 52-15 rout to close its 2024 home slate. The two schools are 7-7 all-time against each other with Texas Tech winning five of the last six meetings overall, including trips to Morgantown in 2019 and 2021.
Texas Tech has been in the national spotlight throughout this season as the Red Raiders have jumped from No. 23 in the preseason polls to a top-five ranking from the College Football Playoff selection committee. That success has pushed the Red Raiders to six appearances on FOX, two now on ESPN and one other marquee matchup on ABC this season.
