Lady Raiders take on Wildcats in Tucson

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders are on the road to take on the Arizona Wildcats on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT in the McKale Memorial Center. Texas Tech leads the all-time series against Arizona with a 2-1 record. The Lady Raiders won the last meeting on November 21, 2014 at home by a 47-44 score.
The Lady Raiders (14-15, 3-13 Big 12) lost to the UCF Knights in Orlando by just one point last Saturday afternoon. In the game, Tech shot 40 percent from the field (22-for-55) and outrebounded the Knights 37-33, with 13 offensive rebounds.
Totaling 15 assists on the day, the team was led by Jasmine Shavers with 19 points and five 3-pointers, while Kilah Freelon led the way on the glass with nine boards. Bailey Maupin dished out five assists and Maya Peat added six rebounds for a season-high in the game.
In the past two games, Shavers has made 11 three-pointers to lead the team in that category. Shooting 11-for-21 from behind the arc (.524), Shavers has made 61.1 percent of the team's 3-pointers over the last two games as the Lady Raiders have gone 18-for-52 behind the arc.
In these last two games, Shavers averaged 20.5 points per game, 11 rebounds, three assists and 13 field goals. This year, Shavers has also recorded a team-best 25 double-figure scoring games (out of a possible 29) with 13 of those coming during Big 12 play.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Arizona Wildcats are 17-12 on the season and 8-8 in Big 12 play so far this season. Arizona is on a two-game winning streak with victories at Houston in overtime, 74-72, and against BYU, 65-57. Their most recent losses came against TCU, 73-85, and at Oklahoma State, 64-83. The Wildcats are averaging 68.2 points per game while holding opponents to just 63.2 points per game. Shooting 43.7 percent from the field this season, Arizona averages 13.4 assists per game as well as 10.4 steals per game. The Wildcats are led in scoring by three players who average double-figures on the year – Jada Williams (12.7), Breya Cunningham (11.2) and Skylar Jones (10.5). Leading the way on the rebounding side is Cunningham with 7.3 per game followed by Isis Beh with 3.9 per game.
