February 06, 2025 | Men's Golf
WAIMEA, Hawai'i – Sophomore Tim Wiedemeyer led the Red Raiders in the first round played on Thursday at the Amer Ari Invitational at Mauna Lani's North Course.
Wiedemeyer fired a 6-under-par 66, which included one eagle on the par-5 seventh hole, plus five birdies and just a single bogey. The sophomore currently sits in a tie for ninth place going into the second round of the event on Friday. The 66 matched a career-low for the sophomore having also shot a pair of 66's last fall.
Freshman Connor Graham and senior Charlie DeLong both had strong performances too. DeLong opened the tournament with a bogey-free front nine including four birdies. Both DeLong and Graham ended the day in a tie for 26th with scores of 4-under-par 68.
Senior Calum Scott rounded out the group of Red Raiders to shoot under par in Thursday's opening round. Scott, like Wiedemeyer, carded an eagle on the seventh hole. He finished 2-under par (70) and sits in a tie for 51st in the large field of 123 participants at the Amer Ari Intercollegiate.
Overall, Texas Tech is in a tie for seventh place of the 20 teams in action at 16-under-par (272). The Red Raiders are tied with Texas and UCLA and sit one shot back from fifth place and four shots back from third.
The Red Raiders continue their first event of the spring on Friday. The second round begins at 11:30 a.m. CST, which is a shotgun start for all 20 teams.
