Hurtova atop Valspar leaderboard after two rounds

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Texas Tech sophomore Klara Hurtova had an incredible Saturday at the Valspar Augusta Invitational, shooting 5-under-par over two rounds to pace a field of 77 individuals at Forest Hills Golf Club. Hurtova was in first place after round one, firing a 3-under-par 69, and stayed atop the leaderboard after round two with a 2-under 70.
Hurtova will own a three-shot lead heading into Sunday's final round, as she leads a 2-under-par 142 carded by Georgia Southern's Mary Miller. Furthermore, Hurtova's 36-hole 5-under-par 139 was one of four scorecards in the field of 77 that was under-par after the first two rounds.
Hurtova got off to a blazing start, going on a 25-hole bogey free stretch that included nine birdies. Her nine birdies tied for the most carded in the field on Saturday alongside Mila Jurine (UCF) and Jiarui Chen (Georgia Southern).
As a team, the Red Raiders are in fifth place at 27-over-par (603). Georgia Southern owns the 36-hole lead at 6-under-par (582), followed by UCF (+9), Michigan State (+11) and Furman (+25).Â
Behind Hurtova among Red Raiders in the field starts with sophomore Maja Ambroziak, who is in 26th place. Ambroziak carded a pair of countable team round scores in a 2-over 74 and a 5-over 77. She is 7-over-par after 36 holes.Â
Tee times on Sunday will be at 9:30 a.m. EDT. It will be a shotgun start once again for the 13 teams in action. Texas Tech will start on holes four through seven and will be paired with players from Furman and Coastal Carolina.
