Wiedemeyer leads Tech in first round at Cabo Collegiate

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – Sophomore Tim Wiedemeyer led the Texas Tech men's golf team in the opening round of the Cabo Collegiate on Sunday, shooting a 1-over-par 72 at the Twin Dolphin Club.
Wiedemeyer sits in a tie for 17th in the field of 80 individuals, who hail from 14 different teams, competing in the Cabo Collegiate this week. Wiedemeyer closed his first round strong after an up-and-down start, going bogey-free over his last 11 holes played on Sunday.Â
Senior Calum Scott was the only other Red Raider to finish in the top 30, although he was just one shot behind Wiedemeyer. Scott carded a 2-over-par 73 to finish the first day in a tie for 27th. Scott enjoyed a solid front nine, like Wiedemeyer, as Scott carded a 1-over 36 with eight pars and one bogey while Wiedemeyer tallied nine pars for an even-par 35.Â
Senior Charlie DeLong and freshman Connor Graham both sit in a tie for 44th after finishing the first round with a 4-over-par 75 at the Twin Dolphin Club. Sophomore Ben Gregg, who led the team in birdies in the first round with three, finished Sunday in a tie for 50th with a 5-over-par 76.
Overall, Texas Tech is in a tie for eighth place among the 14 teams in action at 11-over par (295). The Red Raiders are tied with Rice and Arizona and sit two shots back from Tennessee in seventh.
The Red Raiders, who have not finished worse than fourth in its previous four trips to Cabo, will look to bounce back on Monday with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. CST.
