Graham co-leads Ben Hogan Collegiate, Red Raiders sit second
September 29, 2025 | Men's Golf
FORT WORTH, Texas — Powered by back-to-back under-par rounds, No. 19 Texas Tech men's golf sophomore Connor Graham co-leads the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational through two rounds on Monday at Colonial Country Club. Graham, along with Tim Wiedemeyer and Adam Bresnu, spearheaded the Red Raiders being in second place at the end of 36 holes, just three shots behind No. 8 Virginia.
Â
Graham carded a 3-under-par 67 in the first round, followed by a 1-under-par 69 in the second, marking his third and fourth rounds carded in the 60s in his last five played. The sophomore, who began on hole No. 13 in a shotgun start, was even-par after his first seven holes. Once he made the turn to No. 1, he finished round one bogey-free with birdies on holes No. 1, No. 2, and No. 6. He followed that up with a 1-under-par round of 69 that included an eagle on the 581-yard, par-5 first hole.Â
Â
A key stat in Graham's success so far has been his play through Colonial's famed 'Horrible Horseshoe' of holes No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5, which are notoriously difficult. He is the only Red Raider to play that stretch at level par or better through 36 holes. Graham will need to keep pace with Virginia's Ben James at the top of the leaderboard to win, the No. 2 amateur in the world, with whom he shares the 36-hole lead at 4-under (136).
Â
Just two shots off the lead and a week removed from his first collegiate victory, junior Tim Wiedemeyer is poised to make a run with Graham for his second career title. Wiedemeyer carded an opening 2-under-par round of 68 with three birdies. He followed that up with an even par round of 70 that included a closing birdie to avoid black figures on the week. Wiedemeyer enters Tuesday's final round tied for fourth place at 2-under (138).
Â
Junior Adam Bresnu is still in the hunt in a tie for 13th despite a 5-over-par second round of 75. The Odessa College transfer fired a 4-under-par opening round of 66 that included five birdies, which put him in solo first after the opening 18 holes. However, four consecutive bogeys in the second round that included the entire stretch of the horrible horseshoe pushed him back to a 36-hole 1-over-par (141).
Â
Final round tee times will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
