Hurtova leads Tech after first day in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. — Texas Tech turned in a solid opening day on Monday at the Thunderbird Intercollegiate, highlighted by two Red Raiders inside the top 10 after nearly 36 holes at Tucson Country Club. The Red Raiders were tied for fifth when play was suspended due to darkness late in the second round.
Klara Hurtova paced Tech, sitting in sixth at 2-under through 35 holes. Cameron Freund will also complete her second round on Tuesday morning and is tied for 56th at 13-over through 35 holes. Lauren Zaretsky, Maja Ambroziak and Amy Squires completed their rounds before play was halted.
Zaretsky is tied for seventh at even-par after 36 holes, giving the Red Raiders two players inside the top 10 entering the final day.
Ambroziak is tied for 53rd at 12-over, while Squires is tied for 66th at 16-over.
Play resumes Tuesday morning to complete the second round, with the final round to follow. Texas Tech is one of seven teams with players still on the course needing to complete round two.
