Raider Recruiters Showcase Texas Tech Athletics
| Raider Recruiters Showcase Texas Tech Athletics Oct. 20, 1999 by Blayne Beal When it comes to recruiting student-athletes, the Texas Tech coaching staff knows their prospective players are in good hands. The Raider Recruiters, an all-female organization, are a vital link when it comes to recruiting for football, basketball and baseball. Each year this group of Texas Tech enthusiasts helps sort through the lists of names to get to know the personalities behind them. The group has been around since 1975 and has become one of the most influential spirit organizations. The Raider Recruiters can be seen on gamedays escorting potential recruits and exemplifying what it means to be a Red Raider. Raider Recruiters are responsible for becoming familiar with the background of each athlete they are helping to recruit, being knowledgeable about the university and the city of Lubbock as well as being able to answer just about any question posed by a recruit. Once an athlete becomes a Red Raider, the Raider Recruiters decorate locker rooms and assist in gameday activities that involve the team. Sound difficult? Not for these ladies. "Our group starts with getting a good group of girls," said head coordinator Julie Kaczmarek. "We look for girls who are really involved at Tech and that truly love this place." Raider Recruiters offer a student perspective to high school students who are about to embark on one of the most important decisions of their lives. The group is able to provide students personal accounts of their experiences at Texas Tech, which in turn may help make the decision process a little easier for these student-athletes. "We are able to give these players a non-athletic opinion and that is really important," Kaczmarek added. " These guys are 17 and 18 years old and are about to make a very important decision that could impact the rest of their life. We try to present Texas Tech at face value and let these guys know what Texas Tech has meant to us." |
