History & Tradition You can't speak of sports and not speak of the past. For Texas Tech Baseball, the past holds great memories for Red Raider fans, fomer players and coaches and those memories will be catalysts for a 2014 team that seeks a return to the "glory days." The tradition of Red Raider baseball includes conference titles, NCAA Regional appearances, winning streaks and great games, of course. However, what makes Texas Tech Baseball truly unique are the many great young men who have dedicated their college careers to the Red & Black and become part of something greater than themselves.  |  Photo Gallery 356 Tech record for career strikeouts Monty Ward (1996-98) 240 Tech record for career games played Clint Bryant (1993-96) 34 Tech record for career wins Shane Wright (1997-99) 33 Tech record for single-season home runs Joe Dillon (1997) 30 Tech record for consecutive-game hit streak Gera Alvarez (2002) Baseball Roots Baseball is the third oldest sport on the Texas Tech campus surpassed only by football and men's basketball. Tech baseball's roots date back to 1926 when E.Y. Freeland skippered the first Red Raider squad and since then Tech has won four conference titles, had 31 All-Americans, 169 All-Conference selections, 27 Major League Baseball players and 11 Academic All-Americans. All-Americans Through the years, Texas Tech fans have been able to cheer on some of the top players in the collegiate ranks as 31 players have earned All-America status at some point during their career. Of those 31 players, 11 were named to a First-Team All-American list including Clint Bryant, Josh Bard and Cameron Blair just to name a few. In fact, those 30 All-Americans have accounted for a total of 43 All-America selections.  |  Photo Gallery Clint Bryant Clint Bryant (1993-96) is the most decorated All-American in Texas Tech Baseball history as he became the first Red Raider to earn First Team All-America honors in back-to-back seasons (1995 & 1996). He was named the Southwest Conference's Most Valuable Player in both 1995 and 1996 and was an All-SWC selection all four years. He is one of just two former player to have their jersey retired at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park and remains the career leader in nine offensive categories including games played (240), home runs (44) and RBI (271). | | |   By The Numbers | 169 All-Conference Selections 135 MLB Draft/Free Agent Picks 89 All-Big 12 Performers 30 All-Americans 27 Big Leaguers | 11 Academic All-Americans 11 First Team All-Americans 9 NCAA Tournaments 4 Conference Championships | | |   Conference Championships | Southwest Conference (1995) Big 12 (1997) | SWC Tournament (1995) Big 12 Tournament (1998) | | |   NCAA Regional Appearances | 1995, Stanford Regional 1996, Lubbock Regional 1997, Lubbock Regional 1998, Miami Regional 1999, Lubbock Regional | 2000, Houston Regional 2001, Fullerton Regional 2002, Houston Regional 2004, Atlanta Regional | | |   Retired Jerseys | Clint Bryant (1993-96) | Kal Segrist (1968-83) | | |   All-Americans | Jerry Haggard, 1969 Doug Ault, 1972 Barry Hoffpauir, 1972 Ruben Garcia, 1972 Ron Mattson, 1976 Gary Ashby, 1977 Bobby Kohler, 1980, 1982 Jimmy Zachry, 1983 John Grimes, 1984 Mark Brandenburg, 1991 Travis Driskill, 1993 Saul Bustos, 1993, 94 Mike Kinney, 1993 Ryan Nye, 1994 Brandon Welch, 1994, 95 Jason Totman, 1995 | Randy DuRoss, 1995, 96 Dion Ruecker, 1995 Matt Miller , 1995, 96 Matt Kastelic, 1996 David Lindstrom, 1996 Clint Bryant, 1994, 95, 96 Jason Gooding, 1997 Keith Ginter, 1997, 1998 Joe Dillon, 1997 Josh Bard, 1997, 98, 99 Shane Wright, 1998, 99 Josh Brady, 2004 Cameron Blair, 2004, 05 John Neely, 2011 Jamodrick McGruder, 2012 | | |
